Carlos Almanza Ortega was accused of 2 murders in the US and is now on the streets free in San Pedro de Lóvago, a small town of Chontales, Nicaragua.

The US requested his extradition on the murders of Josiah Fulton (a US Marine working in the White House) in 2002 and Eric Hills in 2000.

Carlos Almanza was detained for 4 months at "El Modelo" and was released about 2 weeks ago after he and his lawyer faught for his liberty. Under the Penal code a prisoner can only be held for 2 months of preventative arrest. It is also supposedly written that under the constitution Nicaragua does not allow for extradition from their national territory.

In the mean time Carlos Almanza is walking free on the streets with no supervision.

US Senator Saxby Chambliss is considering a proposal to the US Senate for the suspension of aid to Nicaragua because of the Judicial Power of Nicaragua releasing and not extraditing Carlos Almanza Ortega.

As much as I would like to see this young man in a court of law answering the charges, I do not support the Senator's proposal.

Nicaragua is a sovereign nation and her constitution clearly states that NO Nicaraguan citizen is subject to extradition.

Period. Case closed.

Just don't say that to loud or you are going to get a dozen new "Special" neighbors from the US.
