In the past 5 months I have had 2 Nicaraguan aquaintances attacked or threatened with machetes.

These 2 attend class with my wife at UPOLI University in Managua, and both were on their way to class when it happened. The first victim of an attack is an 18 year old girl, she is about 5 feet 2 inches in and petit. The girl was attacked after she stepped off of the bus at her stop. She now has a very thick scar across her forearm, she did not try to resist just gave up what they wanted on demand and after this person had already slashed her, a Flip-Phone.

The second person fortunately wasn't attacked, just threatened by 2 men with machetes. He gave up his Flip-Phone and his wallet and was on his way, however he pleaded with the robbers to leave him with his credit card so he can get back home, and they actually gave it to him!

Ok, obviously Nicaragua has to implement a strict waiting period when you buy a machete, and start a machete buy-back program to get them off the streets. Then, levee a huge tax on sharpening stones, and require a permit to carry a machete in public.

That's how America deals with guns, right? :?

Personally speaking...I think there should be a longer waiting period! Let's face it...if one isn't planning to kill anyone or do anything illegal, what's with waiting a few weeks to get the guns? JMLO (just my liberal opinion)
