There is only one world; we all must inevitably learn to share.
They fish for lobsters in Maine with traps. It is a heavily regulated & policed industry to insure it'll last. The catch is sold in markets around the world at high prices.
Why are these Miskitos scuba diving for lobster? Are they not educated as to the risk of the 'bends', is there no buddy system to keep them from staying below too long, that so many suffer? And when the price for spiny lobster is so low, why do they continue doing this work, for so little? Is it all they know?

Unfortunately they have no education, no money, and no technology

To the best of my knowledge, they are (now) educated on the risks of the bends but I think it is a cultural thing to push the limits.
They continue to work the lobsters because it is not all they know .... it is all they have.
I really wish JPJW would (could) weigh in on this. I think he has communication issues.

And I stand by it still Jhon, look I dove lobsters professionally in my youth, and understood the risks.....
Lobster method of capture in Nicaragua was started with traps, and because of the average depth of the water should have continued as such and only the shallow waters around the Keys should have continued......
But the Miskito People themselves started getting greedy and went further out and increased their risks......
Companies that buy, process, and export the Warn Water Caribbean lobster tails are not responsible for the changing of the method of capture.....
I for one am NOT going to pile my butt overboard in an average depth of 88 feet, alone and "Go Down on a Reef"........
I am responsible for myself....Moma didn't raise no fool.....
Sorry, but that is how it is......
