I have been called an inventor way to many times here, infact so many times that I believe I may be as good and as crazy as Albert Einstein (or Nicaraguans are so shut out from the world around them)!

If I step foot into a kitchen, the first comment made is "what will he be inventing this time?" (today I got this comment for using a Waffle maker) or if I use Masking Tape to help me paint a room I am called an "Inventor" (god forbid I have a nice straight line). Just about anything I do, using a very little bit of brain power (ie. using a recipe not from Nicaragua to cook, decorating a Christmas tree with something other than bought tree ornaments, building a Pinata with my daughter out of paper mache rather than a bunch of tape, glue and boxes (as they do here).

I just can't escape people calling me an Inventor, everytime I hear it I shake my head, think of how easy it is for me to try to do something a different way, it doesn't always have to be done the Nica way, just because we are in Nicaragua.

I was called revolutionary....I didn't know what to think at the time....

I thought it was bad........

But later I understood it was someone that changed things for the better.... Supposedly...

What exactly are they saying to you? Maybe they are actually calling you "inventive or creative" (inventivo). And therefore giving you a compliment and some praise! Could just be you are being admired for how you do things!

I am not saying they are not complimenting me, I am basically saying that no one wants to think around here, and the silliest of things that you can do are some sort of miraculous invention.

You have to remember that some Nicas are still in the stone age and for them is like seeing the wheel for the first time... be their beacon of light 3F's and remind them that change is good:cheers:

Well there are some really keen ones too.. For example the River barge here (http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=12.115682,-85.885636&spn=0.003787,0.005563&t=h&z=18) that is drawn across by an adapted transmission and IIRC 2cyl engine. (I think Aaronthegreat blogged that barge) I saw one TV repair tech that had the soldering iron on a old bike tube so it did not have to rest on the bench. The fellow that fixed my S-I-L fridge made a funky adaptor of a Cheap car A/C recharge system for fridges.. But the people who are willing to be inventive are few and far between.. I will give you that..

"decorating a Christmas tree with something other than bought tree ornaments" When our maids saw that we had decorated our tree with ornaments made in NICA (i.e. the little colorful birds, wood whistles, etc.) they commented on how inventive we were. At least I think that is what they were saying:D

I got similar comments in the market when I was buying a few dozen of the little palm woven purisima shakers with bells inside, they have a ball sort of shape and a loop on the end and are a lot cheaper than the plastic multi colored christmas balls, to decorate my christmas tree.
