I tried running an ad in La Prensa for 1 week to see what kind of responses I might get for a position in my field.
Response 1 through 4:
Head hunters for SiTEL Call Center.
SiTEL is the call center that bought the old US Embassy in Managua and has clients such as Cricket Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Capital One Credit Card. This company is trying to hire a total of 800 excellent English speakers this year to answer calls for their newest client, Capital One. SiTEL is paying their workers between U$100-U$200 dollars for each new employee they can recruit. The funny thing is that I was already hired by this company for Capital One, but I rejected the job because they could not answer a few simple salary questions.
Response 5:
Investment of some sort
Some guy calls me up and is interested in selling me an idea of his to make big money. No Thanks.
Response 6-7:
SiTEL yet Again!
Response ¨8:
Just got this call at 10:20 PM tonight, 1 day after my ad stopped running
A guy calls me up with a very soft voice, I tell him I am seeking a position in architecture, he says he has a position for me, but doesn´t seem to want to respond to basic questions. I ask him to send me his email address so I can send a Resume. I look up his Email on google, happens to come up on dozens of seeking gay partner websites. I send him a text saying I am only interested in an architectural position... he sends me a text back saying that he is a 19 year old chef from Matagalpa and sorry about the call.
I am now hoping that I do not get any more calls on my ad. It was worth a shot to post it in the paper, but I am getting more of a response stopping by door to door at firms I am interested in working with.
