I tried running an ad in La Prensa for 1 week to see what kind of responses I might get for a position in my field.

Response 1 through 4:

Head hunters for SiTEL Call Center.

SiTEL is the call center that bought the old US Embassy in Managua and has clients such as Cricket Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Capital One Credit Card. This company is trying to hire a total of 800 excellent English speakers this year to answer calls for their newest client, Capital One. SiTEL is paying their workers between U$100-U$200 dollars for each new employee they can recruit. The funny thing is that I was already hired by this company for Capital One, but I rejected the job because they could not answer a few simple salary questions.

Response 5:

Investment of some sort

Some guy calls me up and is interested in selling me an idea of his to make big money. No Thanks.

Response 6-7:

SiTEL yet Again!

Response ¨8:

Just got this call at 10:20 PM tonight, 1 day after my ad stopped running

A guy calls me up with a very soft voice, I tell him I am seeking a position in architecture, he says he has a position for me, but doesn´t seem to want to respond to basic questions. I ask him to send me his email address so I can send a Resume. I look up his Email on google, happens to come up on dozens of seeking gay partner websites. I send him a text saying I am only interested in an architectural position... he sends me a text back saying that he is a 19 year old chef from Matagalpa and sorry about the call.

I am now hoping that I do not get any more calls on my ad. It was worth a shot to post it in the paper, but I am getting more of a response stopping by door to door at firms I am interested in working with.

Since I was up and on the internet I figured I would check my email, yet 1 more SiTEL headhunter.

Isn't "doric column at rear entrance" considered an "architectural position"? :lmao:

So what you are saying is that you probably would have received a better result if it really was a Drag Queen ad we were cajoling you on a couple weeks back..

Ok this is weird, but I am getting more responses from my ad this week and it isn´t even running this week!

My wife had to speak to this gay chef the other day and politely ask him to stop calling and texting me, this guy just doesn´t give up easily.

I recieved 2 emails from people other than employers who would like to build their architectural contacts here in Managua. 1 email from a current SiTEL employee who apparently wants a new job because he sent his resume and a cover letter to me?! Another SiTEL employee who wants to hire me. Another person who wants me to hear about his ideas on some businesses he would like to start.

The guy from SITEL who wants to hire you is probably trying to recruit you. He makes $200 for every person he recommends and stays on the job for 3 weeks. I work there and know the drill. Some of these people sit outside the complex and as people come in they ask them to give their name and ID # as reference so they can make some extra cash.

Yeah, I know the drill on this money. When I was hired over there I gave them the name and ID number of a relatives friend that works there, if I knew you were there I would have used yours.

Today I recieved even more calls from now several gay men, pretty much vulgar calls... I was civil about it, asked them not to call back, did not make any comments about their sexual preference, nothing bad. I have no idea what they want, or how much money they are willing to waste on calls to me, trying to bother me.

Next time I purchase ad space I will buy a cheap used phone and buy a new phone number for U$3 dollars. I learned my lesson.

I also met with another man who claimed to have a position for me, where I could use my English, met at Casa del Cafe and for 2 hours he tried to sell me on a pyramid scheme. He paid the bill, so at least I got something out of it, not a total waste.

Later after this I went over to Claro to try and get some information about the people that were calling me. The girls that attended me were very helpful, they offered to give me ALL information on the callers (assuming they were post pay clients), unfortunately they were pre-pay. They informed me that in Managua there is a special team at the Policia Nacional that investigate such cases, and they said they are very good at what they do. All I have to do, apparently, is put in a denuncia... my wife wants me to wait until they call back.
