View Full Version : The rain gave me some good time to think about nothing

I left work today as the skies were getting dark and the rain was approaching. I thought I had a good 10 minutes to make it a 15 minute distance in a quick walk. I was tucked away in a section of Managua where very few taxis or buses pass, and very few people are willing to pickup strangers, even strangers dressed in pressed pants, button down shirt, tie, and light skin.

So there I am trying to make it a distance when the rain just came down super hard in a split second. I found a covered entry gate to hide under for a bit, but this location was too low and a flash flood quickly covered me to my knees. I took off running to a higher and slightly drier location, leaned up against the wall for a good half hour as the rain continuously came down. Coconuts were rolling past me at 10 a minute... man theres a lot of coconuts! They make a thumping sound as they pass down the cobble stone street, kind of sounds like those bamboo wind chimbs, but with the rain it was a bit more peaceful.

The location I was at was higher, but not high enough, when several cars tried storming past me they splashed me with a wave of water. So I kept on moving along, came across 3 men under a covered porch sipping their baggies full of guarro. I politely asked for an extra plastic bag to put my cell phone in and they were happy to give it to me.

Another half an hour went by and I was no drier under this porch, and I was afraid these guys were getting a bit to drunk, so I went off again. A pickup truck passed me and offered me a seat in the truck bed, so I quickly jumped in and headed down Car. Masaya with the rain pelting me.

Feels good to be in dry clothes and under a good roof. :D

I guess rubber boots don't go well with your pressed pants, huh? Maybe you should get yourself one of those snazzy yellow rain suits? We were heading to Catarina when the sky opened up around Masatepe. The roads were flooded in seconds and Roger sent several waves over those mini taxis as they passed. Nindiri was a mess as well, but Catarina was dry as a bone. Go figure.

You should keep some Hershey's cocoa on hand, marshmallows too, to help warm you up after a day like today! :)

Hey Tres, 'tis the season for gettin' a good soakin', no? With cell phone & new-learned ability to read the sky & all the monies that nicely pressed pants imply, looks like you'll soon be making an arrangement with your taxi-man.

However, riding home dry & business-like in a taxi, you would miss out on what is truly elemental about living in Nicaragua's capitol, coconuts rolling down a cobble stone street in the rain - love it man!

Ya know, I have noticed, and it may well be my imagination, but the posters on TRN are for the most part very observant and do well at discribeing things....

Alright boy's and Girls I will post Miskito Alans verse of prose so the rest can enjoy.....

Somebody asked me about leaf roofs somewhere on the Pacific side in Nicaragua.

Leaf roofs exist all over the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.

I don't like these Leaf roofs, because my hobby of watching the zinc

rust, is adversely affected………. Miskito Alan

Oh Lord....Deliver me to that state of mind.

Couple a airplane rides, perhaps an eritoc short boat ride, a hammock strung up in the shade with tropical breezes blowing across it, actually calling, LCT, LCT, you SOB, do you hear me?

No smell of coconut oil on a crowded beach, but the smell of a cool coconut water fortified with a splash of FDC.

The waves gently tumbling on the beach for a background music that beats the hell out of that "Piped" crap in restaurants and elevators.

Fresh seafood prepared within minutes of being taken from the sea....

3F what have you started me thinking?

Honestly boys ... I am jonesing for a couple of flights and an erotic boat ride right now. Then significant hammock time with a good book and an FDC & anything. Followed up with dinner at Farm peace and Love. Then more hammock and some Jimmy Buffett. In short ..... "time to think about nothing", while the only sound you hear is the lapping of the waves and the wind in the palms.

I think that my caretaker problem has been solved at last. I fired him (caretaker).... working with the LCI legal guy (magistrate?) and the legal guy on Big Corn (judge?). Paid him (caretaker) 4 months wages for 4 years work. Learned a lot about sending money via Western Union too.

All the property needs now is 4 hours a week to keep it raked and that is being handled. Much less monthly expenses and hassles.

Now the last remaining issue is how to get the caretaker off of the island and I am leaving that to the powers that be on LCI....nothin I can do.... the important thing is that I am no longer enabling the caretaker and his family.

Marinero de Augua Dulsie...

You are supposed to bring a seat cushion and wear a cup, and I ain't talkin' bout no Dixie Cup, on rough days...

They lend you the seat cushion - that bright orange thing that looks like a life vest.

LCT wrote a blog about his erotic panga ride, it's on here somewhere.

Hey Dud...

Found it. For some reason "erotic" did not search well but "panga" did.

That's more like it! They'll probably last a lot longer than ziplocs, too. I'm using some for electronics, and I'll be lucky if they last three weeks between opening, closing, stuffing things inside, and stuffing the bags into my leather shoulder bag.

I don't need them to be waterproof, just dustproof and as a means of organizing small items.

"Every Day Is A Winding Road"

I hitched a ride with a vending machine repair man
He says he's been down this road more than twice
He was high on intellectualism
I've never been there but the brochure looks nice
Jump in, let's go
Lay back, enjoy the show
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low,
These are the days when anything goes

[Chorus]
Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer to feeling fine

He's got a daughter he calls Easter
She was born on a Tuesday night
I'm just wondering why I feel so all alone
Why I'm a stranger in my own life
Jump in, let's go
Lay back, enjoy the show
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low
These are the days when anything goes

[Chorus]

I've been swimming in a sea of anarchy
I've been living on coffee and nicotine
I've been wondering if all the things I've seen
Were ever real, were ever really happening
