Piedra Cantera prices in two different cities

An advertising banner across the road in Managua said piedra cantera (quarry stone) was C$19.00 each. The same day in Diriamba, the same supplier had a banner across the road saying it was C$10.50 each. I know there are quarries fairly close to Diriamba, which probably accounts for the dramatic price difference.

There are two shades, a grayish one,and a darker blackish one.
These are extremely affordable for fencing,and rockman's proof, rockmen don't like climbing .

this piedra cantera was used for countertop. maybe i took that they were yellow from the back wall?

We were in a moving car so I coudn't read the whole banner, but I tend to believe the prices were for the same product and it was shipping that made the difference.

The blocks are nominally 6" thick. I measured some once, but I don't have the measurements handy. The two or three grades I'm told exist are based on how cleanly cut they are, whether they're meant to be exposed (cleanly cut) or plastered over (ugly cut).

I have been seeing a lot of people with Piedra Cantera used as their floor base, rather than cement and they lay the ceramic tile on top of this. Any thought on this?

Typically a Nica floor is no thicker than 2 or 3 inches if you are luck in cement, and then ceramic or cement tile.

LCT, I'll see if I can measure one again while I'm here. Otherwise, it's a handwritten note in a file at home that may or may not still exist. The file, not the home. Well, both actually; I haven't checked for sure.

Concrete is easier to get level than stones.

So that document states that the most common one used would measure 6 inch x 12 inch x 18 inch

I would love to get some here, but the shipping would far exceed the cost of the blocks. I have located a small stash here, trying to buy them for a long time, maybe 25-30 of them, would be nice to have around for little projects. 6" cement blocks were going for 22 cords each when I last checked a few weeks ago, I saw them get as high as 32 cords a few years ago when all the prices went crazy, had to pay up to 26 cords each on my construction, the year before that they had been 16 cords each.

For SJDS or LCI I think reinforced concrete would end up cheaper and better, but that's just an educated guess.

i am fine with reinforced concrete for structural strength.

but for a finish of natural stone at a reasonable price, that yellow piedra cantera is hard to beat? beautiful natural stone at a very inexpensive price.

heck, i got travertine for my house in texas at 3$ a square foot and that was inexpensive for here.

you could do the piedra cantera in a herringbone pattern to boot.....
