Ghost town guy addresses the water issues of the town.

While an obvious show man and the chanel is a thinly vailed go fund me (Watch my Youtube, buy my merch, pay to visit the town to pay for the town) I still find it a fascinating narrative and will surely stop in on one of my north south trips to see the real deal.

Social blade seems to show 5 to 7K monthly income which should be just enough to shoe string a million dollar Mortgage. Throw in some merch and some visitors and he may even get a bit ahead.

    On the road in 'Nomadland'

As for the movie up for an Oscar, Maureen Dowd wrote, "As a Hollywood writer friend of mine said after she watched “Nomadland”: “That was not entertainment. That was Frances McDormand having explosive diarrhea in a plastic bucket on a van.”
Not a crop of movies that make you reach for the Junior Mints."

I had a 1/2 interested inkling to see it (Nomadland), but it is falling to zero. I hear the story is utterly depressing and the ending just reinforces he hopelessness. <shrug>

While on the subject of manufactured Hollywood crap - Chilo insisted w watch Coming to America 2 - It was on Amazon prime (which we have) so the actual cost was really really small and it was somewhat enjoyable and completely predictable..

Not much to be said in favor of explosive diarrhea.

I was traveling in a VW camper van somewhere south of San Felipe on the Baja peninsula and experienced a bout

I bent over, grabbed my ankles, and fired at a creosote Bush about 5 feet away. Within five minutes the Bush was covered thickly with flies.

I walked into the Sea of Cortez, cleaned up, and we drove off. This was during my SF days, when the hippie girls wore dog flea collars around their ankles (and not much else).

As a species, we are infinitely adaptable.

When I was in Key West my Beneteau came with the standard marine head. I soon replaced it with a macerator model, electric. That solved the plugged up head problem, but the head is located in the smallest , hottest part of the boat.

We finally just tied a length of half inch line to the radar arch, with a hand loop , stood on the swim step, and hung over the stern.

We showered on ths swim step as well.

Had a head with a macerator in my 29 Phoenix.....worked great until we were docked in Cat Cay and despite many written and verbal warnings and instructions, my sister ......yes the one with a PhD from MIT......put a series of tampons in the head and then tried to macerate them

As God as my witness, I have never been angrier in my life.

The following day was spent on my knees on the docks in Cat Cay removing, disassembling and re-assembling a toilet and shit pump.

    Ahhhh....the cruising life.

Not to distract from our friend with the fascinating "do", I wish I had his focus and energy.
But I suspect that he is going to find his greenhouse is too small. With that timber he could have made it twice as wide.

I do have some advice for Tom: Time Shares

    It's the perfect solution.
You can't have a beach place here without someone living in it full time.
It will be broken into and robbed. Even if you kept it really simple, they would steal the lumber, windows and roof.

And many people don't want to spend their entire lives on the beach: heat, humidity, bugs.

I'll trade you a month in the mountains, cool, dry days, no bugs, for a month on the beach.

    BREAKING NEWS
“Nomadland” won best picture and Chloé Zhao made history in an Oscars night that put the spotlight on diversity.

We indeed live in very strange times.

You can either embrace it, or plan your escape to Nicaragua.

Shit....I wrote a long, pithy reply and mistakenly deleted it.
You are right about the house being stolen bit by bit while you were gone. Saw it happen on LCI.
The crux of it is this....Your suggestion would then put me into the hotel management / reservation business....no thanks.
There use to be a number of house sitters on the island that would stay in your house and protect it from damage. They were mostly retired Canadians and from the USA.
Apparently that is not the case anymore.
There is a whole cottage industry of retired guys who will move around the Caribbean (or wherever) and babysit your house for you.....a good deal for all involved. Your house is minded and he gets free or cheap rent. Beats having a wachee.
I was gonna say that it is a shame that is the way it is in Nicaragua, but that is the way it is in every country including the USA.
    Use it or lose it.

Yeah, the way the labor laws are in Nicaragua it's difficult to find someone who will occupy a house, and accept food, water and electricity in exchange for just sitting there and keeping an eye on stuff.

There used to be a lot of old Mexicans who would do that when I was in Baja, happy just to have guaranteed food and a roof over their head. Of course, one burned down quite a bit of wood framing I had on a house I was building, trying to use a stove to keep warm

If you pay a cuidador anything, he's just going to be drunk all the time and your place is going to get robbed anyway.

I've tried to skin this cat a bunch of different ways. I haven't lost anything really big,, but I always know to bring hammers, screwdrivers, those folding knives from Harbor Freight and Home Depot.

There has been some minor grifting: Krisnia ordered 4 quintals of concentrado two days before we arrived. When we got here there was nothing. Javier would have had to carry them down. Usually the bus would have dropped them at Jayro's.

It was about $100, annoying,, but what can you do ? Krisnia used an outfit in Condega that we had never used before. The factura was made out to The Gringo The possibilities here are endless, and I didn't, don't have the time to sort them. Easier to just move on.

Krisnia has moved on, Javier is gone, I went to a contract arrangement where one guy provides an equipo. He's responsible for them. He pays them and takes a cut. He keeps them working.

I had learned this in Mexico years ago,,, just forgot it:

You have to have a Jefe.

While this fellow is trying far to hard to be hip, it is a good summaryof why the Hilux is so indestructable.

This lock down stuff made my spring oil spraying of the Prado delayed until probably end of the month. The oil spraying slows the corrosion inside the boxed frame.

Louis does a good job of plowing through the Fog of disinformation of right to repair - Hell most of the management in my company (that is a high tech firm) is clue less on the difference of source code and binary files.

Interesting on how Deere is providing source code to the Chi-coms but not supplying simple, secure, binary files to the American farmer.

ASPW has bought a Hobby - A mid 70's range rover..

It reminds me of 2 British 4x4 Jokes.

    1) Do you want to see the jungles of Africa? Travel in a Range rover - Do you want to come back? Travel in a Landcruiser.

    2) Why did the British never manufacture computers? Because they could not figure out how to make them leak oil...

I can relate to this video as it is similar to the Galloper - The Galloper is a throw ack to the (suppressed snicker) Pajero I had for 15 yrs.

Miss the putt putt putt of that 4D56 so much.

I had a Salvadoran mechanic work on the Pajero in years gone by and one day the Paj was getting the dif oil changed - Fellow comes and says (in spanish of course) "Fernando what are you working " Fernando yells "Pajero" Guy hells back "Tu Madre"
