    Default What will Today Bring

How many Hardcore Criminals and Treasonists will Ortega have arrested today?

On Monday Rubio was already crying foul, expect to see a lot more of same coming out of the States & Europe today. Obviously the sanctions thus far have done some damage and probably a lot more to the underlings that got hit than to the King, he did have to re-brand his gas stations, but that is easy enough.

My biggest fear has been & is Trade Sanctions, majority of his fuel is coming out of Texas, can't be that hard to turn that off. My bigger fear is trade sanctions on exports, will cause some major suffering, I have seen the Coast's fish plants shut down twice in last 15yrs, 1st time was when World Economy went to shit, no one eating lobster, 2nd time in 2018, could not get product out. Things get ugly fast, not going to starve but got no $$.

It's just odd to me that here in 2021 a head of state can just order the opposition put in jail whether literally or symbolically, and the people don't seem all that excited. Or do they? Where are the pitchfork-wielding masses, preparing two lampposts (or chamuka trees) for the installation of two new wind chimes? When that happens, I'll know the people give a shit. Until then, apathy is king and I'll be skeptical that this whole thing is even real. Are these candidates playing along with a game?

But look at the USA. I've claimed we're governed by the mercantilists like Twitter, Facebook, etc. and they jailed Trump, and the American people don't seem to care much. Just keep paying us not to work and we're your huckleberry.

Don't follow local politics much but one possibility that sticks in my mind is that the election will have a lot of hot air and a smidgeon of violence (no more than the US election) and that the incumbents will win by a sizeable landslide. Politics is fickle, but this seems to be the most likely outcome.

Keep in mind, the revolution is still fresh in many minds, especially those that were on wrong end of stick. An old woman I know hid her 3 sons in a well until she was able to get them out 1 by 1, otherwise they would have been grabbed up and made to fight, and these were young boys. Not sure that Nicas are so passive, but what would they be fighting for, a new shitty leader? None of the candidates would be able to fix Nica, they all want to be next King, same as 2006.

Nica is going to need a hard reset, not an easy answer. They need a miracle, but I don't see it.

Kameltoe Harris was in Guatemala the other day, she should have popped down to Managua to kiss Ortega's feet.

Sounds like some sort of protest has popped up in MGA.

Electric has been out in part of the Country a bit today, the grid not anything nutty.

Family and supporters are asking for Proof Of Life on the Miami Nica. Reports are he was beaten very badly. Proof of Life is commonly called for for in Hostage situations.

Never been a big fan of his but he has paper from Harvard so not an idiot, He might have been best candidate, he has returned from exile
a few times and got his ass beat up, seems now is questionable he is still alive. Pretty sure he is a US citizen. Ortega is dancing with the devil.

I have long figured he catches more flack from his kids than anyone, as they can't go to Miami to party and shop every other weekend.

Reading La Prensa this AM the _opinion_ was that the head of the BCN was the real hit to the regime - It has a cascade effect on the wiggle room the BCN has to move now.

For the past few months it actually has looked like EU is coming down harder on them than US. Some rhetoric today suggest they will make more moves on him.

You have to believe he has some advisors besides the Bruja, but if so are they nuts too?

He has done nothing but alienate Nicaragua since elected and has done nothing to try and make the Country independent. They cannot produce their own energy, cannot produce their own food, they have little or no manufacturing other than the outside investors, and those are all like rats on a burning ship right now. What Ace Card in the hole does he think he has.

BUT he ain't stupid, remittances from USA up something like 40% in 1st quarter. Run More Nicas out, more $$$ rolls in, and that is the only viable thing he has done for his Country, make the smart people leave for better paying jobs abroad, leaves him the King of Idiots, Children, and Old People, none of whom will ever uprise on him.

I have watched him as close as anyone last 15yrs and continues to baffle me. He has no friends that are going to jump in to help him, they can't help themselves. Nicaragua has little anyone wants or can't get elsewhere, and easier. Maybe he has an offer from China for the Country, at this point it makes as much sense as anything else.

He could have built a self sustaining Country in the past 15yrs, but made little if any effort, he has robbed and raped (literally) the Country, no one knows the true state of the economy, and until he is gone we never will. He is a Campesino, he has no dream to go live in Monaco, or Spain like Rivas, he will die in Nica, and I believe that is what he wants, his family are not Campo and will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Hell, I am not so sure we will not be pontificating 20 yrs from now, amazed he has hung on so long, he is in for the long haul...

He seems to have no vision or dream for Nicaragua, no “better tomorrow” to inspire younger generations. Only the coattails of graft and job prospects for bullies. And Nicaraguans seem ok with that. If they can emigrate and remit, life is “good enough.”. Jodido pero contento, as Daddy-Yo says.

Daniel ruined Nicaragua once, gave away farm land to idiots. Nicaragua was the Bread Basket of Central America, now they eat ramen noodles. He is is going to run this Country into the ground.

AND if you have any ambition to live in Nica I would be careful about posting here or anywhere else, especially FB. They do seem to be watching internet pretty hard.

Especially Gringos, I been banging him since 2006, if there is a shit list I guess I am near top, but I would still feel safe there, on the Coast they take care of their Friends. Be careful who you talk to and be careful what you say.

I learned early on that everyone on Coast has a "nickname", someone is always listening in USA. I got to hear myself speaking on phone (why I never talk on phone), from the Theater in Key West, A friend happened to be there that day, no doubt it was me but they could not decipher the conversation, was mundane, but had been listened to and tried to decipher, High Creole.

Sandys are using FB hard and they have 1000's of pages, shit they post is insane, My Cuban Amiga sends me shit nearly daily and I can only shake my head, I never been drunk enough to believe most of this shit, but they do....

And that is not wrong, but I would bracket that with the dynamic duo are focusing on people and entities who are of clear and present danger to them and maybe 1 or 2 levels below - we are not those. While we all think our opinions matter to some people they do not..

    Exactly.
Opinions are like assholes, and who cares about yours??

And the Ortegas have to be pretty thick skinned.

Much of what goes on happens behind the scenes: The US didn't want a Chinese presence of that strategic value in CA.
    Hence no canal.
Like Cuba, the US will not "support" any significant development in Nicaragua as long as Ortega runs the country.

An exception might be a socialist US president.
    That's not Biden.

In the meantime,, Daniel has money in the bank and a lot of yes men to tell him what a great job he's doing.

Nicaragua cooks along on 3 cylinders and remittances fill the income gap.
    Wages stay low.
I drove the back road to Miraflor last week from Yali.
The northern mountains are indeed breathtakingly beautiful.

They are paving the stretch from my turnoff ,,, to Yali, and doing a great job. It's pumping lots of steady money into the area. Eventually the Ruta de Cafe will run from the Sebaco turnoff to Matagalpa, Jinotega, Yali, and back to the Pan Am at Condega.

And there are still inaccessible mountains to the north to be explored.
